FoundCity in Super Beta

Terrible_street_karaokeShould you find a point of interest in Manhattan that you would like to share with others, simply folkmap it via cellphone on FoundCity.net:

Using folksonomy tags, people in the city can index what they find interesting about the city, in order to bookmark it for themselves as well as to reveal it to other people. Folkmapping allows you to both keep track of the things you stumble across in your daily adventures, as well as compare notes with other people in your city, to learn more about your surroundings and discover interesting things you may have been missing out on. And as you do it, you contribute to a growing index of space that becomes more interesting with each new entry.

Hey, thanks for the info, that's a cool thing they started. There are so many applications for Google Maps, glad to see people are starting with them. I wrote about this yesterday, if you're interested it's online here.

Joe forget to mention his brilliant ideas for other applications of google maps, so I thought I'd append them (hope you don't mind, Joe):

* Commerce

Share and compare gas prices (like gasbuddy.com on steroids)

Share and compare dry cleaning prices

View a movie’s availability at rental stores around town

See how long the wait is at lunch and dinner spots around town (show only restaurants with “0 minutes” or “<15 minutes” wait)

* Community

View baseball and soccer fields open around town

Track the position of local mass transit

View which community swimming pools are now open

* Government

Track and display local crime calls in a region (just think of combining Chicago’s crime map with an extensive housing and rental database)
