Schools and Sprawl

Michigan begins to learn some Hard Lessons about how their fancy new school construction is encouraging sprawl.  Meanwhile, Miami attempts to counteract this trend by building new schools near mass transit.

As I understand it schools in Michigan (where I have live most my life) cannot be regulated by any local land-use regulations. This includes zoning.
